10-21-06 Emergency Drill WINSTON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

County-wide emergency response personnel participated in a simulated drill involving "Weapons of Mass Destruction." Shortly after 8:00 AM a dispatch from 9-1-1 was made indicating that suspects had been seen around the Double Springs Elementary School throwing what appeared to be bottles containing liquid from their vehicle that caused an explosion. It was also stated by the 9-1-1 dispatcher that there were three injured victims at the school. Emergency personnel then rolled into action. The exercise is intended to train area personnel to work together in responding to the various needs that could arise as a result of a chemical - nuclear - biological or germ threat posed on any community in Winston County. This drill was staged in conjunction with Winston County emergency response personnel, county law enforcement, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. This was the first of such training exercise of this magnitude in Winston County. Plans are underway for an April 2007 Drill and future NIMS Classes will continue to be offered.
